Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts (BRCVPA) is an A-rated visual and performing arts public magnet school in East Baton Rouge Parish School District, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Kindergarten through 5th Grade students at BRCVPA benefit from a rigorous academic program enriched through the arts. In 2017, BRCVPA became the first Nationally Certified Magnet school in the state of Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Education has recognized BRCVPA as an LDOE Top Gains Honoree for student growth as measured by statewide assessment, and an LDOE Equity Honoree for advancements made by students with disabilities, economically disadvantaged students, and English learners. Principal Candice Hartley attributes the school’s success to the hard work and dedication of the incredible team of amazing teachers, leaders, and support personnel who are committed to providing academic excellence, true arts integration, and equitable approaches to teaching and learning. Ms. Hartley would like to thank BRCVPA’s many stakeholders, including parents, community partners, and district leadership for supporting BRCVPA’s mission to provide authentic experiences, educational programs, and opportunities that will inspire students to positively impact future generations. Congratulations to the entire BRCVPA family, including students past and present. This award is for you! BRCVPA will be recognized and receive a National Magnet School of Excellence Merit Award on behalf of the school during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s 38th National Conference hosted by Clark County School District in Clark County, Nevada, April 5-9, 2021. Magnet School of Excellence Awards are only given to a select group of magnet schools. To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a trained panel of readers. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
